What are some important car crash statistics for Connecticut?

Car accidents take place fairly often, so it's important to know where your state falls in the safest states in the nation. It's always wise to try to stay safe on your own; paying attention to the roads, staying off your cellphone and stopping if you're tired can help. If you're hit by someone who has been negligent behind the wheel, that's when you may be able to file a claim for compensation to help you get through a difficult time of pain and frustration.

Fatal accidents in Connecticut are still causing damage to families and properties, and they're happening hundreds of time each year. In the state, which has a population of 3,596,080 as of 2013, the number of fatal crashes totaled at 255. There were 276 deaths in those crashes, which equates to .88 deaths per 100 million vehicle miles traveled. Could those accidents have been prevented? In many cases, speeding, drinking and driving or failing to pay attention were linked to the causes of the crashes.

How does Connecticut compare to other states in the country? Iowa, which has a similar population, had 290 fatal crashes with 317 deaths. Oklahoma had 621 fatal crashes with 678 deaths. The area with the fewest deaths and crashes was the District of Columbia, which had 20 fatal crashes with 20 deaths.

Most deaths in Connecticut took place with car occupants; car occupants made up 46 percent of the total deaths. The next highest percentage comes from SUV and pickup truck occupants, who made up 20 percent of the total fatalities.
