When you get into the car with your child, the last thing you expect is to be involved in a collision. When that happens, you hope that you won’t be faced with a loss like this father is now facing.

A 16-year-old girl from Connecticut has been killed in a chain-reaction collision that shows how important it is for drivers to be aware of their surroundings. The girl was riding with her father, a 49-year-old man, when they were in a head-on collision on Route 138. They had been traveling west in a Jeep Wrangler.

In the opposite lane, there was a vehicle that was coming to a stop. The driver was attempting to turn left onto a road, but the traffic behind the vehicle did not stop in time. A 2010 Chevrolet Impala collided with the driver’s side bumper of a Lexus SUV behind the turning vehicle and then passed into the oncoming lane. The Impala hit the Jeep, forcing it to roll over and hit a utility pole.

Both the father and daughter in the Jeep were trapped; his daughter was unresponsive but taken to South County Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her father was taken to Rhode Island Hospital and was conscious and alert.

No one else required medical attention. The driver of the Impala has been cited for leaving the right side of the road and for following too closely; no alcohol or drugs were reported in this crash.

This tragic crash is like many others that take place. If you’re involved in one, you have every right to seek compensation against the person responsible.
