When a driver is acting erratically, it’s normal for the police to go out of their way to try to pull that person over. If the individual won’t pull over, the police sometimes use special tactics to make the vehicle come to a stop.

If they’re unable to get the driver to stop and they are approaching a town or intersections, it’s normal for the officers to stop the pursuit. Doing so helps prevent further collisions or more erratic behaviors from the driver.

In the meantime, the erratic driver still puts others at risk. Take for instance this case in which someone was killed as a result of a dangerous driver. The man was killed after a driver fleeing from the police hit him while driving the wrong way in West Haven. According to the news, the 54-year-old victim from Seymour passed away at Yale-New Haven Hospital at 11:59 p.m.

The crash reportedly took place when the police were in pursuit of a 45-year-old driver who fled the scene of another crash in Orange. The crash in Orange had taken place earlier in the night when the driver hit a vehicle from behind and fled to the east. At around 9:55 p.m. , he then crashed into a 2006 Scion XA. He continued on and soon collided with a Subaru Outback being driven by the 54-year-old man who was killed.

The Orange police stated that the 45-year-old man had been driving erratically, and they did not yet know the reason for the erratic behavior. The crash is still under investigation.
