Result-Driven, Focused on Your Recovery

Winter is a hazard to drivers as they travel

When you travel, you know there's always a risk of an accident, but you usually don't think it's going to happen to you. With winter here, it's more important than ever to realize that you are in danger every time you get on the roads.

There are ways to help reduce the risk to you and your family, even if you're just driving locally. Slowing down, watching out for drivers from out of state and avoiding distractions all help keep you safe and on the road.

Avoid truck-heavy roads

One way to avoid a crash this winter is to avoid driving on trucking routes. Truck drivers have a harder time seeing smaller vehicles, so if you aren't confident around them, plan to take another route. If you do have to drive around trucks, remember that the driver's mirrors have to be visible to you, or else he or she isn't able to see you. It's an easy fact to remember and one that could save your life.

Avoid bad-weather days

If you can stay in on a day with bad weather, do it. Trucks may slide, jackknife or wreck because of poor weather conditions. Passenger vehicles could also end up crashing, although the damage may be less than if a large truck does. The only way to guarantee that poor weather won't affect you is to stay off the roads. If you plan to drive, make sure your tires are made for winter weather and stay focused on what you're doing.

No one should have to go through a serious injury, but getting hit by a dangerous driver often leads to serious harm. If you're hurt, remember that you can file a claim. Our site has more information.
