Now, no one in Connecticut expects doctors to be perfect all of the time, but they do have a duty of care to their patients, and this does include making the right diagnosis as often as possible. When they miss something or think a person is suffering from a different disease, valuable time can be wasted. This is especially true with degenerate diseases and things that are easily cured early but are sometimes deadly if left alone too long—like skin cancer.
Below are a few of the diseases that doctors tend to miss the most. If you suspect that you have one of these, be aware of the fact that a doctor may make the wrong diagnosis.
– Irritable bowel syndrome.- Celiac disease.- Fibromyalgia.- Rheumatoid arthritis.- Multiple sclerosis.- Lyme disease.- Lupus.- Polycystic ovary syndrome.- Appendicitis.- Endometriosis.- Migraines.- Cluster headaches.- Hypothyroidism.- Diabetes.
The problem with many of these is that they often have symptoms that are not clear or that are linked to other issues. For instance, those with Lyme disease — which you can get if you are bitten by a tick — are sometimes thought to just be fatigued or depressed. A diagnosis for chronic fatigue syndrome could be made or anti-depressant drugs could be given out, neither of which would actually help with Lyme disease. Lyme disease is also very rare, so, while a doctor may know about it, he or she may not see it often in the real world.
When a wrong diagnosis harms you, you may be able to seek compensation.
