Tips for Avoiding Injuries After a Car Crash

On Behalf of | Jul 16, 2015 | Car Accidents, Firm News

Car accidents are very common in Connecticut, and even the best drivers run the risk of being involved in them. However, that does not mean a car accident has to be fatal or that a driver cannot take steps to survive even if getting in the accident is out of his or her control. Below are a handful of things you should do to minimize injuries after the wreck.

After the accident, you usually want to stay inside your vehicle. You may be tempted to get out to see how bad the damage is or to talk to the other driver, but that’s not a good idea immediately. You could be hit by another car. It’s best to stay in the relative protection of the vehicle, at least at first.

This can also be a good time to get your car itself out of the road. This is not always possible, depending on your injuries and the type of damage the car sustained. If you can do it, though, take a moment to move to the shoulder and turn on your flashers.

One thing you can do before the accident even happens is to create an emergency kit and store it in your car. This kit can contain all of the things you may need right away, such as:

— Mylar blankets.– A camera.– A cellphone.– Any medical cards.– A pen or pencil and a notepad.– Flares.– Bandages.– Medicine.– Contact information for people who should be called in an emergency.

If you’ve been in a wreck, you may be able to get compensation for your injuries.
