Traffic accidents can happen anywhere, but they shouldn’t take place when there are plenty of markings, stop signs or other traffic signals. For example, if you’re crossing the road with a WALK sign and are in a crosswalk, there is really no reason that you should have to fear for your life.
It’s truly negligence that leads to accidents in those situations. A driver who is looking at his or her phone instead of the road, eating and turning away from the road or who is otherwise drowsy or distracted is a serious hazard to pedestrians and other drivers.
Although it is not clear why the driver didn’t see the woman in this case, he still struck her near an intersection at a marked crosswalk. The woman in Connecticut was critically injured after she was involved in the pedestrian accident. According to the news, the woman had been crossing in the crosswalk at Hartford Turnpike and Hillside Avenue when she was struck.
The police reported that the car that struck her was being used for a livery/taxi service at the time of the accident. The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the police. The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but news of her health was not updated, so it’s not clear if she is stable. Following the crash, Hartford Turnpike was shut down for several hours as police investigated the crash site.
Crashes of all types can typically be prevented with better attention paid to the road and to the vehicle itself. If you’re hit by a dangerous driver, you can seek a claim to hold him or her responsible.
