1 Motorcyclist Dies in 2-Vehicle Crash in New Haven

When motorcyclists take to the road, they're at a higher risk of death when involved in an accident than many others. They have no protection if they're hit by a driver, and what might result in minor injuries for someone in a car could be life-threatening to the motorcyclist.

In this case, a crash resulted in a motorcyclist losing his life. A driver who is accused of fleeing the scene of a crash in New Haven has been charged, according to a Jul. 2 report. The news states that the man now faces negligent homicide charges for the crash that took place at the end of June.

According to authorities, at the time of the crash the 27-year-old driver had been traveling when he entered an intersection and did not stop. A motorcyclist heading across the intersection was immediately impacted. The 37-year-old man was killed as a result of the collision.

The 27-year-old driver did not stop after hitting the motorcyclist, even after a witness confronted him. The police were able to find him, fortunately, and took him into custody where he can be held awaiting trial. He is presently charged with operating a vehicle without a license, operating under the influence of drugs and alcohol, improperly turning and negligent homicide. He faces one additional charge for evading responsibility for the death of a person.

If someone flees the scene of a fatal crash, he or she must be held accountable. It's possible for the police to identify them in many cases, so that the family of the victim has the ability to pursue a claim and to hold them responsible.
